About me
Dr Karen Lim is a Specialist Paediatrician. She provides specialist newborn and paediatrics care at Mater Mother's Private Hospital. She also provides newborn follow up and consults in general paediatrics, developmental and behavioural concerns at her Paedsdoctor clinic.
Karen has a first-class honours degree in Microbiology from The University of Queensland and decided to pursue a career in Medicine. Her keen passion in Paediatrics developed during her time as a medical student learning from her mentor Dr Bruce Lewis from The Wesley Hospital.
Karen was awarded Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2012 from Bond University and received her Fellowship in General Paediatrics from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2021.
Karen undertook her neonatology training at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital caring for unwell, premature babies, and babies with surgical and cardiac abnormalities. She completed her paediatrics training at Queensland Children Hospital (QCH) and Ipswich Hospital. Karen also spent six months working at Mount Isa Hospital where she cared for indigenous children and provided outreach paediatrics care to rural and remote population. Karen has experience in neonatal and paediatrics intensive care (NICU and PICU) for babies and older children. She has also worked in the child protection department at both QCH and Ipswich hospital where she worked with vulnerable children with developmental and behaviour concerns.
Karen has special interest in newborn medicine and behavioural & developmental paediatrics such Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She is a member of the Australasia Society for Developmental Paediatrics. She believes in family centred care and recognise that management plans need to be tailored for different families with varying circumstances.
Karen is bilingual in English and Mandarin. She enjoys working with families from various cultural and linguistic background. She is also proficient in Hokkien and understands Cantonese.
Karen is a mum to a teenager daughter and 3 cats. When she is not at work, she enjoys playing with her cats and water painting. You can catch some of her art work in her consulting room.
Dr Valentina Milosescu is a dual-trained Specialist Paediatrician and Neonatologist, with experience caring for babies, children and families from the newborn period through childhood. She provides consultations for general paediatric concerns in children of all ages in her consulting rooms, as well as specialist newborn care at delivery and in the neonatal unit at Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital.
